Created with a passion for preserving and sharing our cultural heritage, Nativoz takes you on a journey through enchanted forests, mystical caves, and vibrant cities, where you meet fascinating creatures and characters that embody the spirit of our land.
As a member of the development team, I had the privilege of contributing to the game's artistic vision and design, from crafting intricate environments and characters to shaping the user interface and experience. But more than a mere technical or aesthetic challenge, Nativoz was born out of a deep desire to showcase the beauty and complexity of Brazilian folklore, and to inspire a new generation of storytellers and game developers to explore our cultural roots.
Through Nativoz, we hope to foster a sense of wonder, curiosity, and respect for nature and its inhabitants, as well as to promote the importance of preserving our forests and biodiversity. We believe that games can be a powerful medium for education, entertainment, and social impact, and we are proud to contribute to this vision with Nativoz.

Capturing the brazilian Folklore
Where enchanting tales and a wealth of cultural legacy
in an immersive gaming experience come alive.
Without research we are nothing.
The research for the game was based on two key books on Brazilian folklore: "Geografia dos Mitos" by Câmara Cascudo and "Abecedário de Personagens do Folclore Brasileiro." These books served as invaluable references in our exploration of the rich and diverse world of Brazilian folklore. "Geografia dos Mitos" provided extensive insights into the geographical origins of myths and legends, offering a comprehensive understanding of the cultural tapestry of Brazil. On the other hand, "Abecedário de Personagens do Folclore Brasileiro" presented a captivating collection of characters from Brazilian folklore, shedding light on their stories and symbolism.
We ensured each character was authentic and respectful to Brazil's indigenous peoples. We implemented accessibility features and user-friendly interfaces to create visually appealing experiences that immersed players in the narrative, fostering a deeper appreciation for our folklore.
We prioritized the implementation of accessibility features to ensure that the game was inclusive and enjoyable for players of all backgrounds. We seamlessly integrated user-friendly interfaces and captivating visuals, engaging players on an immersive journey through the game's narrative, sparking their curiosity, and fostering a deeper appreciation for our folklore.
Accessibility and usability are the essential components.
One of the key considerations in designing the UI was the game's dynamic nature, with multiple paths and four different endings based on player choices. It was important to create a clear and intuitive interface that allowed players to navigate these branching paths seamlessly. I implemented visual cues and indicators to guide players through their choices and ensure they understood the consequences of their actions.
UI design aimed to enhance the player's immersion in the game's world while providing a dynamic and clear interface that supported the diverse paths and choices within the gameplay. By incorporating nature-inspired elements and embracing Brazilian culture, the UI added depth and authenticity to the player's experience, fostering a connection between the player and the game's narrative.
In the first round of testing, we noticed that the visibility and contrast between the environment and the characters were not optimal, making it challenging for players to distinguish them clearly. To address this, we introduced a white border to enhance the visibility of the characters. During the second round of testing, we received more positive feedback, but there were still some concerns regarding accessibility.
As a result, we increased the size of the character border and name tag to ensure they met the accessibility standards for the users. These adjustments aimed to provide a better experience for all players, particularly those with visual impairments, by improving visibility and ensuring that important elements were within accessibility guidelines.
Projects like Nativoz and its exploration of Brazilian folklore and legends serve as a reminder of the diversity and beauty that exists within our cultural landscape. They contribute to the appreciation and understanding of our heritage, fostering a sense of pride and unity among our communities.
It is crucial that we continue to support and encourage such initiatives, as they not only entertain and educate but also serve as a powerful tool for cultural preservation and empowerment. By embracing our culture and sharing it with the world, we foster a greater sense of respect, inclusivity, and appreciation for the unique perspectives and contributions of our people.
Logo and symbol
In the process of creating the "Nativoz" logo, it was important to us to approach the representation of indigenous culture with respect and sensitivity. We aimed to incorporate symbols that authentically represent indigenous communities without appropriating their culture. With this in mind, I focused on integrating elements from nature and indigenous culture in a respectful manner. The logo was designed to evoke a connection to the natural world and reflect the game's themes while honoring the cultural heritage it draws inspiration from
Look and feel.
The design of the game environment aimed to represent various regions of Brazil, as Brazilian folklore is incredibly diverse, with each region having its own unique stories. The player's journey takes them through some of these iconic places in Brazil, allowing them to explore the rich cultural heritage and folklore of the country. The design of the environments was carefully crafted to capture the essence of each region, immersing players in a vibrant and authentic Brazilian experience as they embark on adventures with the folklore heroes.
The modern version of our legends
The character design was thoughtfully created to honor our culture, folklore, and the symbiotic relationship between nature and our heritage. While Brazilian folklore stories are often portrayed as chilling or terrifying, we sought to reveal their multifaceted nature. These stories have been unjustly stigmatized due to the historical efforts of the Portuguese to marginalize non-European narratives.
Yet, at their core, they embody the reverence and creativity of our people, intertwined with the beauty of our natural surroundings and cultural traditions. Through our characters, we aimed to illuminate the vast richness and captivating diversity of Brazilian folklore, inviting others to appreciate the vibrant and imaginative essence of our cultural heritage.
Curupira, in Nativoz, is a legendary creature from Brazilian folklore. He is a mischievous guardian of the forests, known for his fiery red hair and backward-facing feet. Curupira possesses a deep connection with nature and uses his powers to protect the environment and its inhabitants. With his ability to manipulate the elements and communicate with animals, Curupira plays a vital role in the adventure of the Nativoz heroes, bringing a touch of innocence, bravery, and fun to the game's narrative.
Curupira, a character from Nativoz, is a mythical being known for its backward-facing feet. In our rendition, we retained this iconic trait but with a twist. While the character's feet are normally positioned forward, they dynamically turn backward when Curupira activates its powers. This design element adds a visually striking and symbolic representation of the character's supernatural abilities, enhancing the overall storytelling and showcasing the fusion of tradition and originality in our interpretation.
Caipora is a legendary figure deeply rooted in Brazilian folklore. She is one of the most famous legends, revered for her connection to the wild and untamed aspects of nature. According to the folklore, she is known for her mischievous and unpredictable nature. She is believed to be a protector of the forests and all its inhabitants, fiercely guarding the delicate balance of the natural world. She is not only the most famous legend but also a sarcastic character, always keeping everyone on their toes. Caipora's closest friend is Queixada, a wild pig, who accompanies her on thrilling adventures through the enchanting landscapes of Nativoz.
According to the legend, Alamoa is described as a mesmerising woman with long blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. It is said that she emerges from the waters of rivers and enchants men with her seductive appearance. However, behind her stunning beauty, Alamoa conceals a dangerous and vengeful nature. She is known for luring men into the depths of the rivers, where she drowns them and takes them to her underwater kingdom.
In Nativoz, we wanted to challenge traditional beauty standards by celebrating body diversity. Our intention was to promote the idea that sensuality and beauty are not confined to a specific body size or shape. By embracing and celebrating all body types, we aim to inspire players to appreciate the uniqueness and inherent beauty in every individual.
Matinta Pereira is a mysterious and enchanting figure associated with night and dark magic. She is often depicted as an old woman with a hunched back, dressed in rags, and wandering through the forests. One of her notable abilities is the power to transform into different birds, adding to her mystique and otherworldly nature.
In Nativoz, we have brought Matinta Pereira to life as the wisest and oldest among all the legends in the game. She assumes the role of a sagacious guide, assisting players in navigating the game world with her profound wisdom and insight. With her deep understanding of the mystical forces at play, she offers invaluable advice and guidance, empowering players to make wise choices and embark on their journey with confidence. As players interact with her, they gain access to her vast knowledge, helping them make strategic decisions and uncover hidden secrets along their
